About this exam

AZ-900 is the standard first Azure certification and the one most people take before anything else in the Microsoft cloud track. It covers cloud computing concepts — shared responsibility, the service models, public versus private versus hybrid — then the core Azure services and the management layer around them: cost management, governance, compliance and support.

It is conceptual rather than hands-on. The exam wants to know that you understand what Azure offers and how it is billed and governed, not that you can configure it.
